FRIENDSWOOD — A man already facing charges of running over an ex-girlfriend with his car was arrested Saturday and charged with beating up his new girlfriend, police said.
Responding to a 911 call, Friendswood police officers said when they showed up at a house in the 100 block of Palm Aire about 10:40 a.m., a woman inside was screaming for help. Officers reported that after they kicked in the door they saw a man hitting a woman.
The 19-year-old woman told police that she and her boyfriend had been fighting since Friday and that when she tried to leave, her boyfriend grabbed her and took her phone away when she tried to call police, according to police reports. She said he also threatened to beat her with a cooking pot, reports state.
Police arrested Jonathan Hammond, 19, who was charged with aggravated assault. He was being held in the Galveston County jail on bonds totaling $43,000.
Hammond was facing charges related to a January incident. In that case, he was charged with running over his ex-girlfriend with his car.
TEXAS CITY — Two people suffered minor injuries after their car struck a disabled car on the Interstate 45 North feeder road near the Texas City Wye early Saturday morning.
Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said the car drifted onto the shoulder where a disabled vehicle was parked about 1:40 a.m. The disabled car was on a dark stretch of the feeder road between Dimitri’s strip club and the Texas City Wye.
Both cars turned over on impact, but the driver and passenger had only minor injuries. No one was in the disabled car, Tuttoilmondo said.
