CLEAR LAKE — A Clear Lake information technology and software development company recently began work on two new contracts together valued at $27 million.
On Oct. 1, six Cimarron employees began working on the Checkout, Assembly and Payload Processing Systems contract, which provides payload ground operations and launch support to NASA for all Space Shuttle missions.
The contract, worth $17 million, will last through September 2004 with options to renegotiate after that period.
The company’s other new contract — the Enterprise Information Technology Contract — provides support to the United States Special Operations Command, a division of the Department of Defense.
The $10 million contract was awarded in mid-May and work officially began on May 31. Including the renewal options, the contract will be in effect for nine years.
Ron Kirchoff, program manager for the contracts, said each agreement took one year to secure.
“The CAPPS contract expands Cimarron’s role with Boeing beyond the International Space Station to include the Space Shuttle Operation and marks Cimarron’s first step in establishing a permanent presence at the Kennedy Space Center,” Kirchoff said. “The EITC allows us to expand our expertise in information technology support to the Department of Defense. Not only is this a new market for Cimarron, but we get the opportunity to enter new geographic areas, as well.”
