CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake Area Economic Development Foundation named incoming House majority leader Tom DeLay the winner of the 2002 Quasar Award for Economic Development Excellence.
The award will be presented during the organization’s annual banquet Jan. 17 at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center.
The Quasar Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated a strong and continual effort to support the business foundations of the greater Clear Lake area.
The award committee, which consists of 15 CLAEDF members, selected DeLay to receive the award for the second time. The CLAEDF Executive Committee unanimously approved the recommendation.
“There was no question that Tom DeLay was the logical and most deserving of the 12 nominees, truly the best of the best,” said CLAEDF Chairman Gale E. Burkett.
Delay said: “I’m honored to again accept the Quasar Award and I look forward to working with the Clear Lake Economic Development Foundation to ensure a bold vision of U.S. leadership in space exploration and continued economic progress for our region.”
DeLay represents the 22nd Congressional District, which includes parts of Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris counties. DeLay served as deputy whip since 1994, and was recently elected majority leader. DeLay also serves as a senior member on the Appropriations Committee, which produces all spending legislation for the House of Representatives.
